Laurie Papou works in oil paint on wood panel and at times on metal panel. Her life size male and female figurative paintings use "modest" realism to question relationship issues regarding identity, desire and choice.
Since 2001 she has been redefining her creative strategies and now is using video projection with sound as as integral medium. Images projected onto paintings replace traditional light sources and complete the narrative.
Themes in this recent work progress from human relationship issues to the temporal realm of spirituality, birth, death and faith. Our existance is not meant to be answered, but to be experienced and studied. The spatial aspects of video allow for this.
